15-06-2026: Tommaso Pomponi recently completed his doctoral thesis at the University of Tuscia, entitled “Trade-offs in transitions of Italian agriculture: An integrated assessment for the post-2027 CAP” (forthcoming). Congratulations!
He used AGMEMOD in his thesis and collaborated with CREA and the Thünen Institute. Specifically, the research updated and extended the Italian AGMEMOD module incorporating Italian CAP specifications, and introducing a new equation for fertiliser use. The improved model was first used to construct a multidimensional baseline for Italian agriculture up to 2035, combining economic, environmental, and food-security indicators and comparing national trajectories with developments at the EU level.
AGMEMOD was then used to simulate alternative policy scenarios combining coupled support, non-productive agricultural areas, fertiliser reductions, and carbon-based taxation of meat consumption. The model results provided the quantitative basis for identifying trade-offs between production, environmental sustainability, and food security, and for comparing alternative policy mixes through multi-criteria analysis.
04-06-2026: The 33rd World Outlook Conference (WOC) took place in Tsukuba, Japan, from June 2 to 4, 2026. This conference brings together experts who develop agricultural outlooks using partial equilibrium (PE) models. Participants included representatives from the OECD, the FAO, and the European Commission, as well as colleagues from the United States, Canada, South Africa, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Ukraine, the Netherlands and Germany. The conference's main focus was on the comparison of current international agricultural outlooks across different PE models. The impact of rising oil and fertilizer prices due to geopolitical events on agricultural markets as well as model developments in various areas were further topics presented and intensively discussed.
The AGMEMOD consortium was represented by Verena Laquai (Thünen, Germany) and Myrna van Leeuwen (WSER, The Netherland). Verena Laquai presented a new methodological approach for estimating equations in the AGMEMOD model. Myrna van Leeuwen presented work done within the EU project Act4CAP27 about the consequences for the EU agricultural sector in the event of Ukraine’s accession.
The conference highlighted the importance of international exchange and cooperation for the further development of agricultural market projections and for improving the understanding of global agricultural and food systems.

24-04-2026: The Argentinian AGMEMOD team from Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario has released the second edition of AGMEMOD Outlook for the Argentinian crop markets. In addition to the baseline projections until 2035/36, the results of the export duties elimination scenario were presented. The new report and graphs in Spanish are available here. There is also a film available here with a brief interview explaining the main results (in Spanish).
25-04-2025: The Argentinian AGMEMOD team from Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario presented its first results for the Argentinian crop market. The study shows Agricultural Baseline Projections to 2035 as well as impact of three key scenarios:
Improvement in export logistics infrastructure
Total elimination of export tariffs
Reduction of the technological gap in agricultural production.
The report and methodology as well as additional graphs and data in Spanish are available here. The video recording of the results is available here.
